New England Coffee–Try It Iced!

Believe it or not, I didn’t become a coffee drinker until about two years ago.  I got a part-time job in which one of my responsibilities is making coffee, and over time I started to like it.  However, I don’t really like hot coffee unless it is really cold outside.  My favorite is a nice cup of iced coffee, so of course I was thrilled to be able to participate in the New England Coffee Try Me Iced Campaign!    I found a great, simple recipe at The New York Times for making iced coffee  that doesn’t even require a coffee pot!

Coffee grounds soaking in water

Iced Coffee? No Sweat (June 27, 2007)

Time: 5 minutes, plus 12 hours’ resting

1/3 cup ground coffee (medium-coarse grind is best)
Milk (optional).

1. In a jar,(I used a measuring cup) stir together coffee and 1 1/2 cups water. Cover and let rest at room temperature overnight or 12 hours.

2. Strain twice through a coffee filter, a fine-mesh sieve or a sieve lined with cheesecloth. In a tall glass filled with ice, mix equal parts coffee concentrate and water, or to taste. If desired, add milk.

Yield: Two drinks.

I used my gold coffee filter to get the grounds out

I love this recipe because it’s super-easy!  I have a gold coffee filter, which worked great for filtering the coffee.  Even though I did filter it twice, I think once would have been fine.  Not much at all in the filter the second time around, maybe a ground or two.  A word of warning – the coffee make not look that strong, but it is!  Due to the light color I tried it before adding an equal amount of water and it about knocked my socks off!  Of course, that might be perfect if you’re making a shake or something with it!

I love my coffee with lots of milk!

I got to try three of New England Coffee ‘s flavors:  Peach Cobbler, Eye Opener Blend, and Blueberry Cobbler.  The Blueberry Cobbler was definitely my favorite!  It went really well with my dark chocolate creamer.  The Eye Opener was really good as well – flavor it up however you’d like, it’s a great way to get going in the morning!  I’m not a huge peach fan, so the Peach Cobbler was my least favorite.  I’m sure it’s perfect for those people who like peaches!  I really want to try the Hawaiian Macadamia Nut – that sounds really good to me.  In fact, they have a TON of flavors that sound delightful!

Right now you can get a 24 ounce insulated tumbler just for buying 4 bags of coffee!  But hurry, the offer expires August 30th!

BUY IT:  You should be able to buy New England Coffee at your local grocery store, or you can buy it online here

Ok, I absolutely LOVE this idea for making iced coffee. Living in the heat of sunny FL, I also prefer iced coffee 99.9% of the time. To now be able to pull this off without even having to use a coffee pot? Well, since I’m the only one in the house who even drinks coffee at all, I am wicked excited to try this… Brilliant! Thank you so much for sharing. I am going to go pin this post right now… and then get my coffee going so I can have it for tomorrow morning 😉
