When Rise of the Planet of the Apes came out in theatres, I wanted to go see it in 3D but I didn’t. Now that I’ve seen the movie, I really wish that I had seen it in the movie theatre! If you haven’t seen it yet, it will be released December 13th on Blu-Ray and DVD.
Andy Serkis does an amazing job portraying the movements of Caesar, a chimpanzee created using CGI – the emotion and intelligence displayed by Caesar is simply amazing. He is simply the star of this movie, I think it would be hard not to root for him. In fact, in this movie the apes are more strongly developed characters than the people are. That is probably the weakest part of a really good movie – the human characters aren’t fleshed out as much as they could be. However, with all of the action that takes place in this movie they may not have had the time.
James Franco stars as Will Rodman, a neuroscientist living in San Francisco trying to develop a cure for Alzheimer’s disease by testing on chimpanzees, giving them a human level of intelligence. After a test subject’s baby, Caesar, is orphaned, Will decides to raise him at home on his own with his Alzheimer-stricken father. What begins simply as a continuation of his experiment quickly turns into a problem for Will, as Caesar is taken away from him and forced to live in a primate facility. As Caesar’s intelligence continues to grow, he begins to stake his claim as the leader of his new primate counterparts, which will ultimately lead to the RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES.
