As we’re getting started on the New Year, I know many of us are probably trying to shed a few pounds we gained over the Holidays or just eat more healthy food. I know I am! I’ve learned that my age is finally catching up with me, and I can’t just eat whatever I want like I used to. I’ve learned that starting the day off with a healthy breakfast can really set the tone for the day, and Garden Lite has made that a lot easier for me!
Garden Lites is a line of frozen food, so it’s convenient, but it’s also whole food! They have a yummy line of vegetarian, all natural soufflés and zucchini “pasta” dishes. They call them “mini meals” at 7 ounces and 140 calories. However, I’ve discovered that just half of one of the soufflés can keep me going all morning! Now if I were eating it later in the day I’m sure it would be a different story, but for breakfast half of one soufflé is plenty.
Some of the soufflés are better to me for an afternoon “mini meal”. The broccoli is a great one for this. Studies show that eating 5-6 mini meals a day instead of 3 larger meals aids in weight loss. Makes sense to me! You don’t get weighed down from eating too much food and your body can process your calories more easily.
So how do they taste? They all were great! My favorite was the butternut squash and the roasted vegetable. I could probably eat those two several times a day! The butternut squash is perfect for when you want to be reminded of the Holidays or craves something a little sweet. The roasted vegetable is just delicious! I also enjoyed the zucchini, broccoli, and spinach soufflés. The zucchini marinara was good as well, although I would have preferred it without the cane juice, which made it a little sweet for my tastes.
I love the fact that the first ingredient in all of the dishes is some sort of vegetable. Additionally, each seven ounce serving has two servings of vegetables. What a great way to get in some extra veggies! They are also all gluten free and safe for people with nut allergies. None of the products have trans fats. While the products are all natural, they are not certified organic.
