In our house, we love to use freshly ground pepper and salt. Once you get used to it, you’ll never go back to the preground stuff (unless you’re baking, of course). However, we’ve always had separate pepper and salt grinders. The salt one stays stuck to our oven, because we rarely use salt after something is cooked, and the pepper is in a grinder that we keep on the table, since we use it much more frequently.
Usually this is okay, but when we have guests over we’re sometimes left scrambling for salt! The Ozeri Duo Ultra Salt & Pepper Grinder solves that problem! Here are some of it’s features:
•Boasts the same powerful ceramic gears as the Ozeri Duo for effortless grinding.
•Newly designed unique easy-refill system prevents spillage.
•Durable eco-friendly ceramic mechanism easily grinds peppercorns, salt, and spices.
• Features an elegant stainless-steel exterior with an ergonomic non-slip grip.
•Transparent container makes monitoring pepper level easy and reveals the grinding action
It’s pretty easy to load – You just take the removable bottom lid off and stick it on the top, where it acts as a funnel. Pour slowly, and you shouldn’t have any problems. Be careful not to throw away the Inner O-Ring when you do it – it’s that small plastic piece in the top left, and we thought it was just packaging at first. It’s only job is to prevent the accidental discharge of ground salt and pepper grind, so I guess it’s okay if you lose it!
Once loaded, it’s easy to see how much you have left, which I like. Also, this really holds a lot! Our other pepper grinder holds much less. To adjust the grind size, you turn the grinder upside down and turn the knobs. Clockwise tightens for a finer grain, and counter-clockwise loosens for a coarser grain. This part can get a bit tricky – it took us a while to get the pepper to a grind we like that was mostly uniform. It still isn’t perfectly uniform, but we’re hoping over time it will be.
I really like the lid on the bottom. Our other pepper grinder leaves a pile of peppercorn grinds wherever we place it. With this, any stray grinds end up in the bottom lid. Plus it’s very attractive, and will look great on our dining room table! I’m guessing that since it has ceramic gears, it will have a long life. Salt will wear down a lot of gears, but not ceramic ones!
