Explore the World in 3D #CypherKidsClub

Little Miss was pretty excited to try out the Cypher Kids Augmented Reality Cards with me. First we headed to Target to pick them up. Of course we had to stop by the Halloween section first. We laughed to some pumpkins that sing Thriller and checked out all of the great decorations. You can view more photos from our adventure here.

Little Miss wasted no time in deciding she wanted the Wild Animals cards, mainly because she wanted to see the dolphins. Since we were in the middle of moving, and the app is fairly large, we had to wait until we got the internet hooked up before we were able to download the app. Here is more about the Cypher Cards:

Harnessing the creative power of augmented reality technology, there is a new line of 3D learning products for kids ages 3 and up. Grouped by subject matter, the first series of Cypher’s Live 3D Interactive Cards will be available in July and will cover the basic building blocks of learning, to include Colors & Shapes, Letters, and Numbers, as well as popular categories like Wild Animals and Things That Go!

Each card comes with its own 3D marker that when held up to a web cam, initiates an interactive animation sequence that can be seen in 3D. For example, in the Wild Animals pack, AR technology lets lions roar as they stalk across the savannah and polar bears hunt seals from the ice pack – all in the palm of your child’s hand. Each pack contains 18-26 different cards that are filled with informative facts, cool sounds and special commands that let kids control their new 3D world!

Once we got the app loaded, it was incredibly easy to use! It’s pretty neat watching the animals move around in 3D, and Little Miss instinctively figured out how to use the app fairly quickly. There were 18 cards included in this set. Since my iPad doesn’t have a camera, we used it with my iPhone 4S. At first the sound was off, and it wasn’t too exciting, but once we turned the sound on that all changed! They tell you fun facts about the animals, and there are simple activities you can do with them.

They say that the cards may not work if you bend them, but they are fairly thick so hopefully that won’t be an issue. I’ll be on the lookout for something sturdy to put them in so we can take them with us without fear of damaging the cards. I think these would be great for keeping her entertained while we’re out for dinner!

  5. aww, I love dolphins (sea animals) , too. Good choice :) She’s beautiful. I am so happy to see this post, because I’ve never noticed these cards, before, and I know my little one would love them! A sturdy carrying case would be a wonderful addition to the cards–maybe, something from the craft/storage dept would work well. Thanks for sharing!
