Have a friend who loves to help others? Then they should enjoy a gift from Intrinsic! The Marejesho Recycled Paper Bead Necklace is one of their products that is made with an art form common across East Africa. Strips of paper are cut from old magazines, wrapped tightly into beads, and hardened with glue. After being strung together, the beautiful assortment of colors forms a unique necklace in which no two are exactly alike. The string of beads measures 36 in. long, and can be worn as a necklace or wrapped several times as a bracelet.
You’ll be amazed at how beautiful this necklace looks, and it’s definitely a great conversation piece. The bright colors will match just about any outfit, and will be sure to brighten up solid colored shirts! Also, it’s sure to be unique since each one is hand made.
The Marejesho Necklaces are made by an artisan group living in an IDP (internally displaced persons) camp in northern Uganda. Intrinsic’s mission is to empower people to rise above poverty by providing jobs. All products are handmade from local materials. From threads to cloths, from measuring tape to sewing machines – all materials and tools are purchased from shops within the artisan group’s local neighborhood. So your purchase not only benefits the artisan group, but all the small businesses in their village that are involved in creating your product.
In addition to necklaces, Intrinsic sells coasters, totes, and many other items. Go check out their store here!
