Pensacola Beach – Things to Do

Little Miss had Spring Break last week, and the city of Pensacola is having their’s this week. Since we have a fairly young baby, we decided to have a staycation this year. I have to say, I think it was a great idea! We live in an amazing area, and all too often we don’t take advantage of the things that are right in our back yard. While we didn’t do as much as we would have done had we not had a baby with us, we managed to fit plenty of fun into the week!

First off, we went to the beach!  Pensacola Beach was recently voted one of the best beaches in the United States, so it truly is a treasure in our back yard! Little Miss loves to go to the Gulf, but unfortunately even though we’re only a block away it’s usually too windy, cold, or sunny to take the Little Man for any length of time. With my husband home, she was able to go for a bit longer to have some fun!

Little Miss has been wanting to go play Tiki Golf for forever – this week we finally got to go! Usually they are closed whenever she’s out of school, so she was pretty excited! I just can’t believe they don’t open until noon!  It’s an older course, but not very expensaive and Little Miss always has a great time – just be sure to check the hours!

We enjoyed the park in Gulf Breeze. In addition to the play area, they have walking areas, so we walked down to where we could get a view of the water. We showed Little Miss the marker for the water level after Hurricane Ivan – she couldn’t believe how high the water got! We also got to talk about some of the native plants while we were walking.

We also made time for a visit to Ft Pickens.  We have an annual pass, so it was free for us – day passes aren’t that expensive either.  Little Miss never seems to get tired of the fort, and the beaches are some of the least crowded around.  Every time we go we find something new!

I think her favorite thing was the dolphin cruise! Her cousin got to go with her, which was pretty exciting on it’s own. The dolphin cruise was a lot of fun for everyone, and we did get to see some dolphins! This was our first time on the boat from Premier Dolphin Cruise, and it was well worth the money. I think everyone on the boat had a great time!  Check Groupon for possible discounts.

Of course for us a Staycation wouldn’t be complete without some time at one of our favorite hangouts – Paradise Bar and Grill. After the dolphin cruise we went there for some lunch while the girls played in the water and hunted for hermit crabs. By the time we left there, it was time to get ready for Friday night movie night!

Have you ever had a Staycation? What are some of your favorite activities?  There are so many inexpensive things to do in Pensacola and the beach area – I hope it’s the same where you are!

Wow! Sounds like you made good use of your staycation. Unfortunately, here in Ohio the weather right now is so unpredictable! Although we do have Lake Erie and Cedar Point. I don’t care for the lake because it’s dirty, smelly and gross. Sigh. Hunting for beach glass is fun though. Thanks for the ideas if I ever get to Pensacola! kristiedonelson(at)gmail(dot(com Thank you.
