Heroes and Heroines – We Need Them! #Giveaway #MomsMeet #NatGeokids

I have to be honest – after the events of the past few months, and especially the past week, I’ve been looking for some positivity to share with my daughter.  She and I were huge Hillary fans, and she was so excited about the possibility of our first female president!  So when the results came in, I was thankful that MomsMeet had sent us these great National Geographic books that highlight so many guys and gals who have made a difference in our world!

I received this product for free from Moms Meet (momsmeet.com), May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms Meet blogger, I agree to use this product and post my honest opinion on my blog. The opinions posted are my own.

We were sent The Book of Heroes and The Book of Heroines from National Geographic Kids.  We concentrated on The Book of Heroines, because as a quiet mother to a quiet girl I am always trying to find role models for her that encourage her to challenge herself.  We even found Hillary Clinton in there!  After the election, we talked about how she is still a hero.  It also had people like Mother Theresa and Marie Curie, and even celebrities like Tina Fey and Emma Watson.

These books are great conversation starters.  We talked about what makes someone a hero, and the differences between being famous and being a hero.  We also talked about how different people may have different values that they see as heroic.  I really enjoyed talking to her about the traits she saw as heroic!  Her heroes are compassionate, brave, inspiring, and don’t give up!

One of my lucky readers will get to win this same set (Book of Heroes and Book of Heroines)!  Each book retails for $14,99, and they are great for 8-12 year olds.

I do think that celebrities can have a positive influence in our society, so I think it is fine and if they are good role models then that is wonderful.

  2. Kelly D says:

I think we could look beyond celebrities to find good role models in most cases.

I agree! There are some great celebrities out there – but also so many more non-celebrities who have championed great causes!

I think there are some celebrities that are great role models, but let’s be picky!

(Sorry about the previous comment – I accidentally posted that :))

  5. stephaniet says:

Yes I do. But I would like to see some real role models become celebrities. We need some good strong young ladies for ours to look up to.

  6. David s says:

Yes there is to much hype on celebrities being role models on our younger generation.

  7. Crystal Gregg says:

Yes! There isn’t enough attention given to ones who are positive role models

  8. Jamie Williams says:

Yes there is. I hate that my daughter is already comparing herself to TV stars and she’s only 10.

  9. Audra says:

I think there is. We need better role models

  10. Ruth M says:

Yes, I think there are too many people who are “famous for being famous.”

  11. Niecey says:

I think celebrities are modern day idols and I don’t believe it is healthy for the general public, nor for the celebrities in the system. Hollywood and the media are very corrupt, and I believe it’s part of a much larger spiritual battle.

  12. Sarah Gillespie says:

Yes. I would rather my kids look up to influential people who make a difference than some celebrties. However, my daughter is a big Taylor Swift fan, and I’m actually okay with it, she’s such a positive human being and a wonderful influence.

  13. Christie says:

I guess it all depends on the celebrity. There are some good role models out there and then there are some bad role ones.

  14. kelly woods says:

Yes there is in my opinion. I feel like they are normal people and should be treated just like us.

  15. Wehaf says:

I do think there is too much emphasis on celebrities as role models. People should be role models because of their achievements, not because they are famous. That’s not to say that there are no good celebrity role models, just that the bar should be higher and that we should look to others as well.

  16. Katie Bellamy says:

    Yes. I think so.

  17. Elle says:

There are so many wonderful people to look up to other than celebrities.

  18. Gabrielly says:

Yes. We need better role models.

  19. Krissy Carr says:

Yes there is. I definitely think we need better, stronger role models for our children.

  20. Donna L says:

    Yes, I do.
